Open Mics
Creating a Safe Space to Share.
Open mic culture is evolving and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Poetry nights have gathered a lot of momentum in the last few years, transforming these events into inclusive, energetic, soulful gatherings that bridge the gap between ages and poetry styles - reinventing poetry as accessible and invigorating.
Reading your work out loud, in front of an audience can be daunting for most people, but you’ll find support, encouragement and connection each and every time you step up to the mic. In my experience, poets are some of the most supportive and compassionate people you could ever share your work with.
If you are interested in being a feature at one of the open mic’s I host, please contact me so we can chat!
Below are few reasons why I encourage you to get out and try it for yourself:
Grow Your Craft – Hone your skills, sharpen your stage presence, and experiment with new material to see how it lands with a new audience.
Build Confidence – Performing before a supportive crowd helps to conquer stage fright and embrace vulnerability. It takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable on stage.
Connect & Collaborate – Open mics usually draw a large crowd. Often, connections made here can turn into collaborations or lasting creative relationships.
Instant Feedback – There’s no better way to gauge the impact of a piece of writing than witnessing in real-time the audience’s reaction – from applause to silence.
Experience Joy & Belonging – Sharing stories, laughter, grief, and art in a live setting creates unforgettable memories and a sense of community.
Gain Exposure & Visibility – Open mic’s often draw diverse, receptive crowds, including newcomers who haven’t seen or heard your work.
Creative Inspiration – Experiencing a variety of artistic styles and voices can spark fresh ideas and fuel your own creative journey.
